Re: Plywood thickness

Just curious. Could you use 10mm ply with a little extra bracing to save weight rather than using 15mm ply? Or would the extra bracing weigh enough to not make it worth the effort? Also, I assume this is baltic birch ply, but the OP doesn't state it.

Good point. I like the panel jig because I can get perfectly square pieces. Some wood isn't exactly square even if it previously cut on a panel saw.

Re: Which bass amp will you recommend?

I like the Ampeg combos. I find that they need the least EQ tweaking among bass amps and they are reliable. As Bill stated, buy used. You can get fairly new BA 10, 12, 15 models cheap on Craigslist.

Re: 1/4 inch connectors: airtight?

I don't think that that one would work. The schematic in the Tuba 24 plans calls for the wiring to be different between the Speakon and 1/4" jacks, with the Speakon used to pass signal through the passive crossover and the 1/4" jack to the driver directly. There is no doubt that Speakons ...

How about this: https://www.parts-express.com/neutrik-n ... l--092-091

It's a combination speakon and 1/4 inch.

The way they cut through is quite incredible
Yes. And yes. I've played through a lot of bass cabinets and they just don't have the clarity that I hear from the jacks.

Re: Why the BFM way?

For an 18" driver with decent specs, that's a great price. If this was 20 - 25 years ago, I would have seriously considered getting one or two of them for a bi-amped bass rig. With better cabinet designs and better light-weight neo drivers, I really don't see much need for drivers like this any...

Re: Learn from this bad experience!

Wow. Just wow. I have seen people force xlr connectors together where the plug and jack were misaligned and push the pins out through the back. I never thought about anyone trying to force speakons together. I will watch out for that now.

Line-X finished

Okay, I got my answer. I took the cabinets to the Line-X shop and spoke to the guys about my concerns of not priming before coating the cabinets. They told me that the problem with coating wood is that if you put on too much Line-X at one time, it will form a barrier on the wood and the trapped mois...

Re: prime before Line-X bedliner?

Line X is awesome. I've spent hundreds of dollars on Duratex over the years that I wish I could have back. Yes, I agree Line-X is the way to go if you can afford it. Since I'm only going to use it on 2 small bass guitar cabinets, it's affordable. If I were a sound guy with about 10 cabinets includi...

prime before Line-X bedliner?

I'm almost done with my pair of jack-12s, and soon I will be having them coated with Line-X. I have seen Duratex on Carvin bass cabinets and I own a commercial bass cabinet that's coated with a Line-X type bedliner. I am aware of the pluses and minuses of both. After comparing both, I've decided to ...
