Jack 12 review
I just finished my tweeterless Jack 12 loaded with a 3012HO driver yesterday evening about an hour before a gig. I gave it a quick test in the garage to make sure everything was working and away I went. I play a Fender Jazz V very poorly through a Sansamp RBI preamp and a Yorkville Bassmaster XS400 ...

techshop
Came across this site today: http://www.techshop.ws/ . Doesn't say how much membership costs but seems like a viable option for someone who doesn't have the tools or space but would still like to build their own speakers. They're only open in a few areas but according to the site they are expanding.

Re: Clamps for Canadian builders
Thanks for that Matt, I'll have to drop by good ol' Crappy Tire next week to pick up a few. I can't comment on the Tuba, but for each panel on the titan I needed a minimum of 4 clamps per panel (2 held the guide board in place and two held the panel to the guide board). Plus I needed 2 or 3 longer o...

Re: Crown XLS with DBX Drive Rack PA+
I use a Crown XLS1500 to power my tops and a Crown XLS602 for my subs. I also use a Driverack PA+ for signal processing. I have absolutely no complaints with this setup, I basically run through the wizard on the driverack before a gig, tweak a couple of things like the crossover and high pass filter...

Re: dust collection unit
I like the idea of just opening up the garage door while I'm doing my work but unfortunately we get two seasons here: July and winter :) . I'm not so concerned about the big stuff, I can easily remove that with my shop vac. It's the fine layer of dust that is just about everywhere that bothers me. I...

dust collection unit
I'm anxious to get back to building some more stuff but I think I'm going to invest in a dust collection unit first. If anyone can offer any advice as to brand or model, it would be appreciated.

Re: Favorite place to buy speaker cables
I've ordered special order cables from bayoucables.com in the past, they seem pretty good but it takes a long time to get your order. I recently bought a load of 12/2 speaker cable from redco.com, got no complaints so far.

Re: DRPA and DRPA+ - no brickwall, is this adequate anyway?
I use the RTA to eq the system to the room, but I find the "perfomance" setting sounds better to my ears than a flat eq. In addition to using the limiter, I set the compression threshold at 12 db below the limiter threshold at a 2:1 ratio, soft knee comression (set at 1 or 2). Sometimes ou...

Re: Quick recovery about lighter amps performance?
I ordered an IPR 1600 but it kept cutting out during a gig. Turns out the fan wasn't working and it was overheating. I sent it back and ordered a Crown XLS 602 instead. I'll stick with heavy and reliable instead of light and cheap for a little while longer, at least until all the bugs are worked out.

Re: amp suggestion
I'm leaning towards the XLS 602D, at 2 x 600 watts @ 4 ohms it seems like it would work well.

Re: amp suggestion
Selling my driverack isn't an option, I especially like the RTA and feedback suppression functions on it. I'm looking for a reliable, non-DSP amp that won't break the bank that can power two 250 watt tops and two 200 watt subs. I'm not convinced of the reliability of the IPR 1600 amp, though the one...

Re: amp suggestion
It's not the DSP version, I'm also using a DBX Driverack PA for eq, crossover, limiter, etc.

My BFM system will eventually consist of 2 OTop 12s loaded with Deltalite 2512s and 2 T39s loaded with BP102s. I recently bought a Peavey IPR 1600 amp to power the works (tops on one channel, subs on the other) but after a disasterous gig last night I'm returning the peavey amp. The fan didn't work,...
