Re: Question for signal processing gurus

Ok, you have an analogue mixer (or two), cool. Set up a compressor to duck the music channels (if you're not sure how, google it, there's lots of info on the net about ducking) but add EQ as well to the input side of the compressor, tailored to vocals frequencies only. You should be able to get tha...

Re: Monitor Impedance

Impedance between woofers and tweeters (when used properly, i.e. with a crossover) does not sum or cancel. Impedance is variable with frequency. If you use an 8 ohm woofer and a 16 ohm tweeter with a properly designed crossover at 2.5khz, for instance, the cab will be 8 ohms nominally below 2.5khz a...

Re: THT LP - End or Side Port?

Another option would be to put the cabinet OUTSIDE the room and fire through the a wall, or the ceiling or floor. I've done this plenty of times and it works quite well. The biggest pain is getting a reasonable seal around the hole between the two rooms. If your carpentry skills are reasonable, you ...

Re: THT LP - End or Side Port?

That actually probably has more to do with the other dimensions of the room than the ceiling height. There are two things you can do to hedge your bets. First, you can always build legs or wall mount the thing so that it butts up against the ceiling. That would give you far more than minimum clearan...

Re: driverack pa+

The price might be a bit high, when you can buy the newer and better PA2 “used” (which is probably a new unit without warranty) from proaudiostar for $270.... You don’t see the PA+ around much any more but $150-$175 for a well maintained perfectly functioning unit would probably be a reasonable pric...

As long as Bill designs in secure storage to hold the magic crystals and unicorn farts needed to get around Hoffman's Iron Law, put me down for a dozen plans.

Re: New Design Ideas??

A simple home audio 2way speaker would come in handy here. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of designs for those available. For examples you need go no further than the Parts Express tech talk forum. There are two criteria for me doing a design. One is that it's something that you can't readily f...

Re: Omni 12 Full range vs Jack 12

Omni probably sounds better and maybe louder for one or two cabs per side. Jack is smaller, but it offers the benefit of being vertically arrayable for pattern control and system expansion.

Plywood

So, we’re finally getting the house back together and bought flooring from Home Depot. Nice stuff. It came on 2 pallets, and had a half sheet of what looked like decent,if cheap, plywood on the top and bottom of each pallet. Scuffed edges, veneered, but no visible knots and it had some potential for...

when they break up, it’s so nasty no one in their right mind would keep going. My assumption is that the responsible culprits are teenagers, which explains that. :noob: Well... I hooked them up to my IPR7500 sub amps once to see how much they could take... they took it all until I was hard into the...

Re: Do voltage limits change with cabinet design?

Yeah, that's pretty funny right there Brent (but expensive!) I do like my little portable rechargeable-battery Bose bluetooth speaker though. It comes in handy. The sound isolating headphones are also nice for drowning people out (and for checking rough audio levels coming from streaming services i...
