Re: DI boxes
The radial DI (green one) for about $100 kicks the snot over every other passive DI I own (I have about 15) The Behringer DI100 (BSS copy) works pretty good. MUST use neutrik or switchcraft XLRs to connect to it- the cheap cables crackle/pop and hiss, and you can blow the HF drivers if someone kicks...

Re: Studio Live 16.4.2
the Behringer DI 100 (di box) actually is quite good. Not a Radial or other A lister, but pretty much unbeatable for the price, and reliable as well. Sounds best (way better) on 48V in stead of the internal 9V. I don't have a lot of B* gear but that is one I can recommend. The nationals I plug into ...

Re: Your drum overhead mic recommendation(s)?
I've used ECM8000 as well. I place it on a tall stand/boom over the drummers head, aimed down at the kit. Not in monitors anywhere! A light touch in FOH and it sounds great. I have to flip phase sometimes with the Hi Hat mic to keep the phasey sounds out. I have made excellent field recordings and l...

Re: W speaker box design??
completely agree, which is why I don't own any direct radiating subs, and run Tubas and Titans for the vast majority of jobs. I also agree the W configuration only worked best in massive designs.(RCA?) And the Fane boxes I use are single pathway (short- 6ft or so), but are almost indestructable. I h...

Re: W speaker box design??
I would disagree a little. A good Martin W bin THAT HAS THE CORRECT DRIVERS will do a higher fidelity job than most double 18 front loaded boxes. Lower distortion, only a little less extension I have a pair of Fane design horn subs with 2 15"s in each, each driver into a horn, looking a lot lik...

Re: Power Distro 3 phase questions
I had an college electrican tie my neutral (WHITE) into a phase once, I inspected, and caught it before we powered up. They had 3 phase wye 200A with lugs, we tied into 2 phases, and never needed any 220. Until that happened, I was good with that arrangement, but that got me thinking... I had the ve...

Re: Freeware audio analysis package
Years ago someone on PSW found it. Only downside is that it does not go below 47 Hz. My son had a sucessful science fair project measuring room modes using this program, a big old martin bin, and a completely empty concrete basement. We proved by measurement that big rolls of insulation stacked in t...

Freeware audio analysis package
I've been using this for a couple of years. It works well on my 800 Mhz laptop with an M-audio USB interface for the ins and outs. I haven't figured out the impulse response, and the transfer function does not have complete paramaters (like delay) but the spectrum analyiser works like a charm. http:...

Re: Titan 48's RULE!!!
I used a pair of Titan 48s 24" width, loaded with 3015LF for 10 days of outdoor shows. We had everything from folk to full on 80's rock bands. I had large spaces to cover, so I split them wide (~50 ft) and put a top on each. Driven with an 800W RMS per side amp, I had no trouble with concert vo...

Clean up after yerself
Make sure you sweep and wipe down all the internal panels on subs before you put on the second side. I'm still getting sawdust shaken out 2 years after I built my Tuba 48s. A tack rag is most useful. You can make one with a little varnish on a loose weave cloth, or a short spray of adhesive on a clo...

you guys know this already.
I guess anyone reading this section for the forum knows this. I finished a pair of Titan 48s loaded with Eminence 3015LF, and have used them on a couple of gigs with the band I run most often. They were replacing a pair per side (yes I know all about splitting subs) of Yorkville LS series 18's (tota...

Re: Round Over on Titan Horn Opening
I add a 1x2 of clear pine on the flat to the inside of the mouth opening, not including the sloped panel. I glue/brad this into place, it beefs up the most fragile part of the cabinet, not much extra weight, and makes a good hand grip when moosing them over thresholds and onto stages. I've been doin...
