Re: Carvin 1584 Blown Tweeter replaced with Flat Array
Made it through the gig. Small gig, didn't have to push hard. EDIT: The fix to the one that didn't sound right was one piezo that had the same SPL, but not the same high end reproduction. Test carefully! I'm going to replace the 8" driver, it's a little suspect, in both speakers, and put a prop...

Piezo Testing
To reinforce the need for testing piezos, I had put 2 arrays of 6 together, and one piezo, although it measured the same as the rest on a calibrated SPL meter, it didn't have the same high end frequency reproduction - we found it using a spectrum analyzer and pink noise. That 16% made an enormous di...

Re: Carvin 1584 Blown Tweeter replaced with Flat Array
Sorry, more directly, will I damage them up if I don't solder together a crossover? I don't understand piezos.

Should I solder one together or not worry about it?

Carvin 1584 Blown Tweeter replaced with Flat Array
Good day! Last gig we blew up the tweeters in a pair of Carvin 1584. I'm sorry Bill, I bought those 30 years ago when I didn't know better. In my defense, If you look at their spec sheet it shows 100dB SPL 1W @ 1m, and flat from 50-20kHz +-3dB. At the time I thought they were pretty good based on th...

Re: Separating Overlapping Frequencies
Thank you Bruce, I use foam so I can replace it very easily for mic hygiene. I'm a germaphobe. I also recommend people chew bubble gum while on the mic, then it smells like bubble gum instead of stinky breath, or whatever else they might be consuming. Don't forget music! Good music is also best when...

Re: Separating Overlapping Frequencies
Thank you Bill, I even have that on my phone. I really appreciate having a place where I can get no BS responses to fixing these problems. I'm sure this is elementary to many of you, so thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

Re: Separating Overlapping Frequencies
Yes, ok thanks. I had forgotten that we don't flatten the room with our acoustic sets. That's probably the major difference between them and our electric sets. My ear isn't good enough to do that very well, and our Sound guy is training his ear. We'll get better at it. Bill, Seth, and others, I did ...

Separating Overlapping Frequencies
Good day, On our acoustic gigs, we have a very hard time separating acoustic guitar(s) from our female lead singer. My main tool for separation is EQ. I band pass the acoustic guitar between 100Hz and 10kHz. I high pass the singer at 120Hz. That's all I do right now. Do you have any tips for keeping...

Re: Industry Standards to Turn Everything On/Off
Thank you Old Mike and Radian. I'm not a talented engineer, but I am an engineer so it's very helpful to have other design to look at.

Re: Industry Standards to Turn Everything On/Off
Great point, thanks Bill. I'm think with digital routing of signals, that it changes the possibilities for Pro Audio. I'd like to move the ADC all the way onboard the instrument / microphone, and the DAC to the power amp. Keeping the signal digital as long as possible. Since that requires a network,...

Re: Industry Standards to Turn Everything On/Off
Thanks a ton Keryn and Old Mike. I'll take a look at Sloan's designs, there's nothing new under the sun so I find "old" designs to be excellent reference material. @Keryn O'Shea I don't know of one pre-built for power amps, and I'm no where near that spot in my process: still at power supp...
