Re: Crowd Size and Physics of Pi(e):Yet another sizing post
This is a good place to start https://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/download/file.php?id=15829&mode=view That’s quite similar to what I measure at the main (MLP) and secondary (2LP) listening positions in my listening room (sorry for drifting a bit off-topic). REW measurements - 4 January 2026.jpg...

Buzzing noise from THTLP ** SOLVED **
I’ve had a pair of THTLP subwoofers for a couple of years. They’re wonderful. When I first set them up, I had used REW to choose the best positions for them in order to maximize SPL and then used REW and MSO (Multi-Sub Optimizer) to dial them in. They sounded OK but I had enormous seat-to-seat varia...

Re: David - How does it compare?
I’ve no experience with either Khorns or Davids (although my speakers are Klipsch La Scalas with THTLPs and my name is David), but … 1) the David page https://billfitzmaurice.info/David.html indicates that the David’s are less efficient that the Khorns (95 dB/1W@1m versus 105 dB/1W@1m for Khorn AK3s...

THTLP characteristics for REW room sim
I have two minimum-size (15"x18"x72" with 12” RSS315HF-4 driver) THTLPs in my listening room. They are vertical (i.e., standing upright) with the mouths firing towards the ceiling. I've been looking to improve the placement of my speakers, subs, and listening positions in my room. I'v...

Re: Greetings
Maybe someone can give me some advice on components to build a set of Tuba 18s. I have a pair of Klipsch LaScala ll, I'm limited of space so I think the 18 will help with my situation. If anyone was to go down the rabbit hole, what drivers & amp would you suggest? I use a pair of minimally-size...

Re: What delay to aim for with THTLP
In my case, I have two THTLPs located in diagonal corners of my listening room. The two subs are managed by a MiniDSP Flex Eight active crossover/DSP.
I used REW (Room EQ Wizard) and MSO (multi Sub Optimizer) and let the measurements guide me.

Is there a BFM plan for a La Scala or SP1 type bass bin?
About three years ago I bought an old pair of La Scalas that I’ve refurbed and modded. I built a pair of THTLP subwoofers to accompany them. I use the system to listen to music in my home. I’m pleased with how my setup sounds, but I’d like to make it better. There are a number of interesting midrang...

Re: Solid/Joined wood for cabs?
Avoid solid wood. Go with baltic birch, which is superior. Even MDF (shudder) would be preferable to solid wood.

Re: Why can’t I hear my THTLPs?
I think I uncovered the problem: I had the gain structure set wrong. The signal I was sending to the SPA250DSP plate amps was of insufficient voltage. I describe the process I went through in setting the correct gain between the different components in my system in this post https://audiokarma.org/f...

Re: Saw tops
Very interesting! Improving the safety of table saws has been long overdue. A friend of mine replaced his General Industrial table saw with a SasStop a few years ago. He is a strong proponent of the technology. Despite having decades of experience, he let his attention lapse for a moment and made a ...

Re: Time-align, TubaHT to LaScala
I just finished a similar exercise and, although I don’t have a fraction of the knowledge that Bill or the other posters have, I’d be happy to share my experience with you. I have a pair of 1986 La Scalas and two minimal-size THTLP subwoofers. Each subwoofer is powered by a 250W SPA250DSP plate amp....
