Re: Omni10 23" vs 2 x J110 for elect bass.
What is really needed is a larger vent area (to reduce the air velocity through the vent and prevent the chuffing), but then a duct would need to be added to bring the resonance back to where it is supposed to be (larger vent everything else equal, raises the resonant frequency, longer length lowers...

Re: Uploading images to billfitzmaurice.net
If all you want to do is scale, crop, convert format (bmp, jpeg, gif, png, etc), etc., this works really well and is very easy to use: http://www.irfanview.com/ It's basically an image viewer with some basic image processing functions built in. It also has a batch mode so you can convert a whole bun...

Re: Vb vs. V(total)
Agreed. What threw me off was in some cases, seemingly their closed box designs, they showed Vb = V(total) which made no sense to me. Either I misunderstood the meanings of those parameters or whoever ran those simulations fudged around a bit (never ran the program so I don't know) and didn't take t...

Re: Vb vs. V(total)
OK, I installed Eminence Designer demo and looked through the documentation. This is what it says for the two quantities: Vb The net internal volume of the box or chamber. This is the volume that remains after subtracting the volume inside the box that is displaced by internal objects like the drive...

Vb vs. V(total)
I see these values on the Eminence cabinet design pages, I assume the results they show are right out of Eminence Designer. Does anyone know the difference between the two? I first thought that Vb is the theoretical or net volume of the enclosure with the driver volume taken into account and that V(...

Re: Source of Large Metal Grills
Absolutely. I bought $85 worth of 48x48 expanded grille, and Penn charged me $105 for shipping. It is much cheaper/faster for me to trailer the 250+ mile round trip between Sacramento and Fremont to the McNichols warehouse and buy grille from them.    OK, as Bill said, ...

Re: Source of Large Metal Grills
Just to reiterate, I researched the same thing, contacted Penn Elcom and other vendors, the pricing for custom grills was beyond my budget. This Ebay seller was recommended by another forumite, said the quality was very good and the sizing was spot on. I will be purchasing some of his grills for my...

Re: Source of Large Metal Grills
Thanks all for the suggestions guys. Sounds like there's no simple answer but maybe get something custom made. Probably not too cheap though. Darn, the PE stuff looks perfect except for the last 8 inches. :wall: I'll take another look at Lowes and HD, Bill, except that I think the stuff they had was...

Source of Large Metal Grills
I'm getting close to finishing (well the basic cabinet without finish or drivers) an O15 tallboy and I've been debating about the grill. I added about an inch of depth with a recessed front baffle for this. I was going to just make a grill frame and use some standard grill cloth but I'm also conside...

Re: Duratex Roller Grade or High Build ?
You can also try spraying instead of rolling. It sounds intimidating at first (at least it did to me), but is pretty easy. You just need a $100 pancake sprayer (borrow from a friend if possible) and a ~$20 texture sprayer from Harbor Freight. I'm really happy with the results. Well, actually I do h...

Re: Duratex Roller Grade or High Build ?
The whole idea of high-build is a single coat system. Drying time isn't based as much on hours as it is conditions. Humidity will slow the process, heat will speed it up, etc. If you use regular and are doing 2 coats, try letting the base dry overnight. Oh, so you're saying that I would have been b...

Duratex Roller Grade or High Build ?
After having completed my Omni 10.5's and having used Duratex High Build with a texture roller (loop type), I was somewhat disappointed with the results (caveat: this is my first time using Duratex). I had some significant cracking and peeling problems that I had to scrape and re-do. I used two coat...

Re: Bogus Bargain?
I decided to just return them. I've never seen anything this weird before and it was disappointing because they looked fine otherwise. I think I'd rather spend time building with good components than messing with questionable ones. I'll just hit up Leland for my next build and rest assured that I go...

Bogus Bargain?
Well I just picked up 4 of what supposedly are Carvin OEM versions of the Eminence Deltalite II 2512 for $60 apiece (including shipping) from Carvin's Ebay store. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Carvin-BR12X-300-watt-8-ohm-Neodymium-12-inch-spk_W0QQitemZ150252521188QQihZ005QQcategoryZ47095QQtcZ...
