Re: WOW! Check out the new amps from PE!

BTW, these amps are also all over eBay if you search for Tripath. Some of them come with the volume encoder, too

Re: W Clamping Cauls

WB - Forget the long-reach Vise Grips. That is one STOUT corner brace you've got there; has the appearance of cast iron, but is probably just wood painted black. What are the extra slots for?

Re: Drip less caulk gun

It may have worked for caulk, but my experience with PL is very different. I always release the plunger pressure after laying a bead and a minute later there's an inch hanging out of the nozzle. Maybe I'm missing something. It's a minor pain, but still annoying.

Re: 2 T39S and 2 DR200 - still amazed

I needed that encouraging report. I'm assembling the first batch of what will be too many (do I really need 8? ) and this is a challenging build. It's been a continuing adventure (only had to rip out a couple pieces so far...no pictures for evidence) and I'm trusting that I too will be amaze...

Re: Any Tips on Long-Distance Craigslist Buying (Albany, OR)

I live 20 min from Albany and would have helped you out. Unfortunately, I was out of town until tonight. You're better off, though. I play French Horn and know little about Bass. I would have asked for a better deal because of the sloppy workmanship on the fretboard. Hope your other opportuni...

Re: Yamaha Digital Mixers

Check the Sound on Sound website. They have reviews of each unit. Apparently the hitch in the O3D's getalong is a single rotary control for parameters. It is slower to get around during a live gig when you need to do several things in short order. (I haven't had the pleasure, that's just a quick sum...

Re: Unbalanced to Balanced Transformer Recommendations?

+1 on the wiring. -1 on the inexpensive (cheap?) transformer. How much do you expect for $11? There's a reason the better DI's run for $150 and up. You may be able to compensate for the poor response of a poorly made transformer, but why bother when you can work without it? If you hook everything up...

Re: Impedance sweep?

Thank you. This was it! I spent some time reading the WT3 reviews. The simple reviews are mostly thumbs up. The detailed reviews are more varied. They do have a special that includes a digital scale with the WT3 for $99.88 and free shipping. This is a good deal it it works well. Has anyone used both...

Re: Impedance sweep?

That was too easy. The one I imagine remembering was a different company of which I'd never heard, but it looked similar. Does the WT3 work well?

Re: Impedance sweep?

Last year (I think) there was a discussion about the Woofer Tester and someone mentioned a similar product from which the WT was derived. The other unit was described as more capable, but I can't find it with the search. Does anyone remember the other box?

Thanks

MEK warnings

I agree with the more severe MEK warnings. In the old days aircraft mechanics would use it to wash their hands. By the time I worked for a major airline (in Canada, anyway) we were cautious enough that the entire hangar (DC10, B737/767, etc) would empty when the painters brought out the MEK cans. Ev...

30w vs 50w clarification

If the irons are not temp controlled, this is a measurement of how quickly they heat (or re-heat), not necessarily the maximum heat they will reach. Higher wattage will allow you to move between large joints more quickly as it re-heats.

Soldering Technique

I'm not sure how serious to take the solid vs liquid idea. The difference is that without wetting the iron you only have a small point of contact. A small blob of solder on the iron increases the contact area greatly because the solder conforms to the surface. This transfers heat more quickly. You n...
