Re: mrz80's XF-208 project

Interested to see how it sounds compared to the XF-212. I've been using the thing for a few weeks now, and I've got a pretty good handle on how it sounds relative to the XF-212 at church, well enough that I can mess with new patches on the guitar synth and be pretty confident of how they'll sound n...

Re: mrz80's XF-208 project

Nearly-final assembly complete. Turned out ok, appearance-wise. IMG_20231126_002058.640.jpg IMG_20231126_002105.640.jpg Just have to wire up the jacks and mount them, and cram a couple of pounds of polyfill in the back, and we can put it to rest. Interested to see how it sounds compared to the XF-21...

Re: mrz80's XF-208 project

Movin' right along... I'm at the point now, with the church Christmas program looming, I'm more interested in having a working cab than a pretty one. So I'll live with the slight incongruities on some of the edges, and the odd PL smear here and there. It'll still look ok from across the room which i...

Re: mrz80's XF-208 project

Always come back and check a clamped up cabinet an hour or so later. The 1/4 dried PE adhesive can be scraped off in its fudge-like consistency. I went back after I posted the photo and scraped off the excess PE. What I meant by "not clean" was one of the joints shifted after everything w...

Re: mrz80's XF-208 project

Glue-up wasn't quite as clean as I'd hoped. Something shifted. Oh well, its' within the realm of what the sander can take care of. Now to figure out the geometry of the baffles.

mrz80's XF-208 project

Well, after COVID lockdowns, a trip to Alaska, and more life than I'd have thought possible resulting in the garage/workshop being buried in junk more than once, I've finally got the workshop dug out and cleaned up enough to do work. I spotted the pair of Celestion 8" I'd bought when I first st...

Re: XF-208 anyone? :D

[EDIT] Since this has shifted from the hypothetical to the actual, I'll go start a proper build thread in the proper build thread place :D

Forum member sine143 built one and the build thread was something like "bastard XF208", but I can't find the thread...
Couldn't find it either. Guess this is one wheel I'm just gonna have to reinvent. 8)

Re: XF-208 anyone? :D

I'm thinking that, luddite that I am, it'll be easier for me to dig out the graph paper and a ruler and scale the thing down by hand rather than try to finagle it in software. Should be fun. I've got enough offcuts and extra hunks of 1/2" floating around the garage (don't ask me how many baffle...

XF-208 anyone? :D

Here's a screwy idea - anyone ever given consideration to scaling down the XF design for 2x8"? I'm thinking for home and casual jams, and 'cause after putting together an XF-212 and loving the sound (and the magical horizontal dispersion that lets me wander around and still hear what I'm doing)...

XF212 FTW!

I've always love tinkering, and doing things a bit differently from every other guitarist out there. I used to run my rig in stereo through a pair of homebrew 4x8" cabs that sounded great... if I was standing directly in front of them. And of course, no one ELSE in the group could hear what I w...
