Any of the decent studio monitors nowadays are powered and have built-in DSP. To duplicate that, you'd have to not only have a power amp, but a driverack. The money you'd save in building your own would be more that lost in the additional cost of an amp and driverack.....especially since there are a lot of pretty good, relatively cheap studio monitors in the market right now.

Any recommendations? I don't need Top Notch. Just descent. Powered is nice.

Presonus, KRK, JBL......lots of 'em out there. I'd try to find something with good low end response so that you don't need a sub.....if you are trying to keep it reasonable. Probably an 8 inch woofer.

Seems like there are new ones coming out monthly and there are reviews on 'em in all the trade mags....haven't really seen a bad review on any of 'em.
