Neodymium
I just got off the phone with eminence. They and the rest of the industry are pricing Neo drivers on a 24hr basis only. Prices are spiking right now, could as much as double. The Chinese cut exports by 60%, and raised the tariff. Most of the increase is due to the export restriction. It will take a couple of years for local mines to get into production.
I've had to kill all my sales of neo's until I get some new info. They are scrambling to put together pricing as I type. Right now it looks like anywhere from a 30 to 100% increase depending on the driver.

Re: Neodymium
Leland, start selling dollies.
Re: Neodymium
Looks like people will have to start working out.

Re: Neodymium
Erf. This could fundamentally change why some would choose to build. It'd still be cheaper to build for the most part... but the price difference gets maimed or the weight savings along with performance murdered: your choice!
Did they say why the Chinese are cutting exports?

Re: Neodymium
They're cutting exports of the raw materials, most of which go to Japan for magnets used in hybrid cars. With oil prices up so is demand for hybrids. Driver magnets always came from China anyway, now they want to sell the magnets for hybrid motors as well.bzb wrote:Erf. This could fundamentally change why some would choose to build. As for us, since we get more dBs per driver we have the advantage over commercial gear that has to use more drivers. Our build costs will rise of course, but at a far lower rate than commercial gear.
In the long term we benefit, as every production stage from mining to manufacturing to shipping creates US jobs.

Re: Neodymium
Yup, short term pain for long term gain. I was just reading an economic treatise the other day making exactly the argument about what's happening today in the rare earth market. It will force global back to local.
The best thing you can read about all of it is "The Post American World" by Fareed Zakaria of CNN. Not about our decline, rather about the rise of the rest of the world.

Deltapro12 and return of hl10c FTW!
no really, this sucks, I had to later build with nothing but neo drivers, but since eminence already raised their ALL of their prices (not to mention they raised my favorite driver, the bp102, by $20), if the difference is too large I guess i'll have to stick with heavier kind

Re: Neodymium
Thinking wether or not I should order a pair of 3012LF right now, although I don't even know where to store a pair of completed T39 at this time.
Re: Neodymium
well you don't HAVE to build them, you could just store the drivers for later, don't worry, they don't spoilAntonZ wrote:Thinking wether or not I should order a pair of 3012LF right now, although I don't even know where to store a pair of completed T39 at this time.

Once you get some space, start building away.

Re: Neodymium
Now that's what I just did. Not entirely sure how much month there will be left once money runs out
Next up start thinking of how to explain to the war office about yet two more boxes with drivers in stock. I've got a few boxes to build.

Re: Neodymium

There is a very thin line between fail and success. It is very thin so, why are you scared???

Re: Neodymium
Disappointing to hear about that. I love the lightweight drivers, but as long as I have a driver that will work properly, I'll be OK. I've never used neo's until this past fall anyway with my T30's. Nuts how light they are compared to my older drivers.
