Decent wireless mics?

#1 Post by whines »

Any suggestions for a handheld wireless mic that would be decently rugged and fairly inexpensive? This would be for announcements and kareoke, nothing fancy but I'd rather buy once.

Normally Monoprice would be my go-to, but they don't carry one yet!

Audio-Technica ATW702 UHF Handheld Wireless System This workhorse has lasted over 5 years of daily karaoke usage. The battery cover sleeve is cracked (karaoke singer dropped the mic onto a concrete floor), but these are beastly for the money!

I know the OP already ordered a mic, but I'll add another good choice for a budge wireless mic:

AKG WMS40 Wireless Mini Single Vocal Microphone Set
http://www.amazon.com/AKG-WMS40-Mini-Vo ... B005SUSWWU

Pros:
-Good vocal clarity
-Good range
-No interference or dropout problems
-Long (12 hour) battery life on one AA battery

Cons;
-Single Channel
-Limited to 3 total simultaneous mics
-Handheld model picks up a lot of handling noise
4 x T39 - 20" - 3012LF (Built 2)
4 x OT12 - 2512 - Melded/D220Ti
1 x TAT - GTO804

Am I the only one still using GTD Audio mics? They've served me well in a variety of applications. Sure, I wish I had better ones, but $$$.

Nope. We use them in our school district all the time. Good bang for the buck and with the way educators treat electronics you are not out a ton of money when they mysteriously get broken or disappear.

I think I was the one that introduced these around here and I moved on years ago. Mine were used very lightly and still developed problems after a couple of years. I found the company to be very difficult to deal with when I tried to get support.

As with anything, buy once, cry once. Sennheiser Evolution is a much better product and their support is excellent. They have flat rate repair, and this includes damage.
