SQ difference?

#1 Post by Rich4349 »

After Leland and other folks' recommendations, I'm shopping for an Ashly amp or two. I'm mainly interested in fidelity, with affordability being the second priority, and weight third. (These may very well not leave the house, unless the sound quality difference is quite noticeable.)

My issue is not being fluent in stereo sales brochure jargon. I know what some of these things mean, but over time some specs fall in and out of favor (damping factor, for example.) So what are the biggest differences one should expect to hear between the following amps:

2 DR250s, 2 27" Lab15 T-60s, 2 30" Neo Titan 39s, 1 Autotuba...and looking for more!

I am sure I would not be able to hear the difference in sound quality between any of these models, provided you have sufficient power for your application. I personally like the Ashley MOSFET amps, as they can drive a dead short and will not usually blow output transistors like traditional linear amps, so to me they are ideal for mobile or installed use where cables may get damaged from frequent movement. I know a couple local installations who are using 10+ year old Ashly amps without any failures. If this is for a home theater you may want them in another room so you do not hear fan noise.
