Probably a good thing as this is a PG forum.y2kindyz wrote: I can't figure out how to in bed pics

The solder joints for the cap look like they could be redone. I would try that first, just to be sure.

Soldering multi strand copper.wire to the single thicker wires of the components is not easy. I'm no soldering expert, but I've found that an hot iron is best, and to use a bit of molten solder on the tip to help conduct heat into the joint. Also, first tinning each part separately. Doesn't need to be a large contact interface, but the flow of the solder between the adjacent wires of the joint needs to look smooth, or it may be a cold joint. Continuity can be tested with a meter across the joint.

So you ran the woofer x-over with no woofer attached to it?y2kindyz wrote:Swapped to woofer thru the xover, disconnect the woofer and turned up the volume with music and hello clip.
So I am assuming the cap on the xover is the culprit. Is it possible the the inductor is the problem? How can I test the cap?
Thanks in advance,
That would put your amp into protect mode.
A 2nd order crossover will show a short at the x-over frequency (or some multiple of it) if the resistance of the driver becomes infinite (open circuit). You need to test 2nd order x-overs with a load attached.

Re: Zumba J15 build with CD
Yes, first I ran it with the CD's disconnected, signal going thru xover, into the woofer. It would clip at different volume levels. I disconnected the woofer and it still clipped. It supprized me because there is was nothing other than the cap between the neg and pos. I didn't expect it to clip. Only thing I figure is the cap shorting intermittently internally. I will try it without the cap connected before I replace it, and report if it stops clipping.CoronaOperator wrote:

Re: Zumba J15 build with CD
Go back to square one. Run the woofer only, no filter. If it clips the fault is not with the filter. Add just the series inductor. If it's still good add the cap. If it clips then the cap is shorted.
Re: Zumba J15 build with CD
Should I run music or 100 hz tone? With the test tone it did not clip, it wasn't until I ran music thru it, it clipped at much lower volume.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:Go back to square one. Music, that's what you use the speaker for.

Wait a second.... what are you using for a music source?y2kindyz wrote:Should I run music or 100 hz tone? With the test tone it did not clip, it wasn't until I ran music thru it, it clipped at much lower volume.

Yes, I tried running a tone and it would not clip until I ran music thru it, then it clipped even at low volume.DJPhatman wrote:Wait a second.... what are you using for a music source?y2kindyz wrote:Should I run music or 100 hz tone? Oops source would be iPad/Phone - mixer - DBX PA2 - amp.Bruce Weldy wrote:
