SLA PRO TOP TWEETER

#1 Post by Bryan67 »

I am about to start my first BFM build with a set of SLA pro 6 x 4. I am based in South Africa and my local supplier can't supply the 1016 tweeters but only has a 7" x 3". Aside from the challenge of making them fit , would there be a significant change in the sound? Any other option I could consider?

Thanks

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the forum :)

I urge you to contact fellow forum member Mkulu to see if he has managed to source 1016 tweeters in SA.
Goldwood do have a presence in SA, maybe the importer will consider getting 1016's if there is sufficient demand.
Other than that, yes, the size matters, the smaller the driver, the wider the dispersion.

You do have other options, namely, importing the correct item yourself.
Speakerhardware (www.speakerhardware.com ) owned by Leland and Family, great guy, bends over backwards to help, and is a forum member and Authorised builder. They also carry the exact crossover/filter parts you will require.
Parts Express.
Both are in the US, both will ship to you.
So will Thomann in Germany ( I think it's the Monacor MPT 016) and have flat rate shipping around the world for 50 euro for up to 30Kg. https://www.thomann.de/gb/monacor_mpt_016.htm

It is important to use the components listed in the plans, that's a quintessential part of the design.
We all want you to be happy with the result of your build too.
Trying to adapt or modify plans or parts may lead to unexpected results...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...
