Re: Another T39 build
Hmm. Hope not, but we'll see. I still haven't fired the first one up yet, although I'm very close. DuraTex is done, and hardware is mounted. While I'm loving the integrated handles at the top, I decided not to cut them at the bottom, as I've read here from others about needing the vertex of the v-plate to be airtight. So instead I put a strap handle on the underside. Its mounting screws go through the mouth braces.
I also put skid rails on the lower backside.
Hope to be able to wire in the jacks and the driver over the next couple of days, and do the leak test!

Looking sharp indeed. Although it may have been prudent to leak test before applying the finish. Hopefully it tests up all good

Re: Another T39 build
Nicely done. If by chance you do have rattles on the braces, a quick and dirty fix is construction screws. You can get them up to 8" long. Drive them through the back into the next panel. Not very pretty, but it works.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

Re: Another T39 build
Yeah, I was kinda wondering about the order there too. That's how Bill wrote the plans, though, which is part of what made me wonder about it. This cab came out almost perfectly square, with all of the internal panels lining up nicely, and I checked for leaks as I went, using a bright light, so I'm pretty confident it'll be okay. Never done this before, so maybe my confidence is ill-founded, but we'll find out soon!commander_dan wrote:Looking sharp indeed. Sorry to jack your thread, but I got a question that relates braces that have been discussed here.
Whenever I slide a brace into position, a lot of glue gets scraped off onto the edge of the panel. I comeback and lay a bead on each side to make me feel better. Is this an acceptable method to prevent rattles?

Re: Another T39 build
Yep. I did it that way without going back with the extra bead and have not 1 rattle or leak after building 8 cabs. As long as there is even a tiny amount of PL in the joint, it'll expand and concrete the joint together. PL is good.jimbo7 wrote:Sorry to jack your thread, but I got a question that relates braces that have been discussed here.

T39s in progress (well, planning anyhow)
Re: Another T39 build
First one is finished! Did the leak test, only problem was a bit of leakage around the driver seal, so I added some gasket tape there. I don't have a proper top to pair it with for auditioning, though. Closest I have is my pair of woofer-only Jacks (bass backline), which only go up to 4K or so. Hooked one up and played a few tracks through them anyway, but not at high volume, out of respect for my family. I liked what I heard, though! T39 sounds big and smooth.
Second cab is coming along. Got all of the "fiddly bits" (small braces and flanges surrounding the driver opening) done. Also got the quarter-round under the handles, the backing plate for the jacks, and panels 9 and 10 done. Not real happy with panel 10, it didn't quite line up like it should, but oh well, it's "just" the bottom.
And, I spent the afternoon pre-cutting all of the major panels for four OT12s.

Those braces arent glued all the way to the end.I circled the area's that arent glued.Being near the end of the horn they may not have an effect but with so many unglued area's the chances of rattles increase.himhimself wrote:djtrumptight wrote:The circled area's will more than likely be rattles

I'm glad you pointed that out, DJTT. I did actually go back and smear some PL out to the ends of those braces. Better safe than sorry, right?djtrumptight wrote:

It's amazing how much faster the second cab goes. I'm nearly ready to glue on the second side already!
