Dual THTLP's

#1 Post by brian6751 »

Im building two THTLP's at the same time. Man it's a lot of work. I'll post some pics later. I'm on panel 10 for both of them now and the drivers are broken in. BUT I made a mistake.

I forgot to glue the joint between panel 7and 8. I laid down a good bit right othe seam and I'll add some more before I seal it up. I hope it will be ok. Any thought on this? Will it be ok? Is there a better idea? Am I just screwed?

Try to get some gorilla glue on it. It is runny and is strong. I fixed a throat brace in my T60. Just lay it so the brace is horizontal (maybe even tilt it so the brace/panel joint forms a V of sorts for the stuff to run into) to the ground, spray some water and slop a ton on the areas you can reach...use a stick on the areas you can't. Don't be cheap, let it run all over, it will foam and make a ugly joint, but that is better than a broke one.
2x T39, 1x T60, 1x THTLP, 1x AT(not built by me) 6x DR250
I need more bass

But this gal's built like a burlap bag full of bobcats

would gorilla glue be better than pl? I saw Bill say somewhere that gorilla glue isn't good to use for these.

For this situation it would be. Since it is runny it will work its way down into the joint without much assistance if any. I wouldn't do an entire build with it.

should I scrape off the pl I already have on there and apply the gorilla glue? the joint seems solid. I can't move it.

so are you saying that as long as the bond is solid and it looks sealed I should be ok? or are you saying redo it?

Yes. Air tight is THE most important consideration while assembling. An air leak in the cab can really kill bass response.

jawesome. good to know. I think ill put another layer of pl down on it just to be sure its sealed. i can't move it at all. I was trying to break it and I couldn't. the pl I smashed in there along with the bracing makes it super solid. I actually used regular pl first then a layer of the 8x pl that I bought on accident on top of that.

thanks guys

I guess I misread the initial post...thought it was a brace for some reason. I dont have the plans in front of me but if I missed a joint I would consider PLing a piece of narrow scrap to it just to be sure it is strong and airtight.

ok. picture time. ill start with some shots of the seam at panel 7 and 8.

Sub #2

Sub #1

couple more. i also pl'ed on the underside of the seam.

and some build pics. Thats #1 on the right. #2 on the left. Building two at once was a lot of work. Had its advantages though. i did each step on #1 first so i had a little more knowledge when i repeated the step on #2. I also noticed the gap right where the driver starts seemed bigger on #2 than #1. Turned out i mis-measured and was able to fix it. i wouldnt have noticed if i didnt have another sub right there to compare it to. I started Tuesday. I had to re cut the first two panels on #1.

Getting these hurricane nuts glued in was messy. i figured i would push them in a bit to start then run a bead of pl around them before i pulled them in.

Panel 9 was 1/8 too short so i ripped a skinny piece and glued it onto the end.

guidelines werent lining up so i used a couple screws to pull everything in and then filled it full of brads to make sure i hit enough panels. Lot of holes but it is solid. ill have a lot of bondo'ing to do!

Squeezout looks good inside to. I used an entire small tube on the edges.

Bit of an overhang that ill flush cut off with a router.

Im going to test #1 before i seal up number two. #1 was my problem sub. everything on #2 seemed to line up great the whole time. So if #1 turns out OK i know #2 will. I also figured i would wait and get some feeback from you guys. Maybe something to do different when i seal up #2.

I am by no means a skilled woodworker and these were a lot of work for me. i dont know how you guys do it without a nail gun. hopefully im not messing the airflow up with all those brads!!

heres a couple pics of my surround channels i just finished. i still have to make the grills though.

You should be fine. PL expands. Even when you glue the last panel, it'll still be accessible from the throat should you wish to add more. Make sure it's well sealed where they meet panel 2 (panel 1?). (The vertical panel, Sorry, I don't have the plans with me to confirm)

Be careful pulling down your drivers. Pl will not hold on the tee nuts. They are not porous. Epoxy is best for them
