a pair of TLAHs (rectangular)

#1 Post by fitzwaddle »

Got the parts ordered before Christmas, and now getting to work on the cabinets - here's a few pictures:

The top is the open end (will be), I plan on covering the top opening with a little grill, round over the sides of the baffle, veneer the sides, and paint the baffle black. I'll probably also add a bit wider base to keep them from being tippy.

Is there a taper on your TLAH build? ...maybe it's just the angle of the photos?

Yes, they are tapered, maybe it just isn't apparent due to the length of the cabinets or the photos - the bottom (closed end) is 2" deeper than than the top (open end). I also made the cabinets wider and deeper than the dimensions in the plans.

9 woofers? How come you arrived at that number?

They look pretty slick.

9 drivers can be wired 3 parallel groups of 3 ( in series ) to maintain the impedance of 1 driver.

^^^ that :)

Then as far as # of tweeters, the choice was driven by balancing desired length of the tweeter line, impedence matching, and sensitivity matching. More info in my Q&A thread before I nailed down the parts list:

It is plainly obvious your woofs are far to far apart too many tweets and won't work.

LOL

Really, beautiful work and let us know how they sound. My $ is on Jaw Dropping!

You do know that quote was a sarcastic shot disguised as humour.

I thought it was humour disguised as a sarcastic shot?

In any case, the only place bondo will go is filling screw holes.

Can't wait for the veneer to show up, so I can get that on the sides, and do the baffle roundover.

I think I need to break down and get a better soldering iron - the one I have is never hot enough - any recommendations?
