Hi All,

What do you recommend for OT 12?

Is it worth to build OT12 with 3012 HO! Wil I get better sound quality or noticably higher output compared to Deltalite II 2512?

Second question is the CD.

What is the difference in sound or volume, if I use NSD2005 instead of ASD1001?
"If a lower crossover is desired...", NSD is recomended. What is the advantage of the lower crossowe frequency?

Any reply, advice are greatly appriciated!

Rgs,

J

How many are you planning to build? How loud do you require?

IIRC, Bill has stated that, other than the slightly higher Pe (2512 = 250WRMS, 3012HO = 400WRMS), the 3012HO has about a 2-3dB gain in the mids. Let us look at the SPL chart of each, shall we?

In the USA, the price difference is huge, US$124.99 for the 2512, US$189.99 for the 3012HO. :broke: I'm inclined to say "No". Instead, I would build 4 with the 2512. Use 4 not for the volume, but for how much better they sound.

Thanks DJPhatman!

Based on the information that I got from you and from Bruce, first I will build to OT12 (2512+NSD) and one T39 (3012LF).

If 2xOT12 and 1xT39 are not enough, I will build another T39.

If I have budget (and we will have enough gigs), I will take into consideration to build more OT12' to increase the sound quality.

IYO is it make sence?

If I built my first pair of OT's with NSD CD, can I build my second pair with Melded array or ASD?

I really want to hear the difference between two and four cabs. :)

I would HIGHLY recommend you start with 2 of the T39. Horn-loaded subs really need to be run in herds (multiples). Build the T39 first, then the OmniTop 12s. As you get bigger, or outside gigs, add to both piles.

You can build with either melded arrays or ASD or NSD. The choice is yours. In the order that I just listed them, they go from widest to narrowest horizontal dispersion. You can mix and match OT12 to OT12, just don't mix them with other tops.

For clarification, the ASD and NSD have the same dispersion as the horn is the same.

After hearing both side by side, I would spend the money for the HO.

My last set had them, my next set will too. A lot cleaner by the XO.

I have 4 T39s and 4 Otop 12s.

Most indoor gigs I only use one pair of Otops and all four T39s. The Otops are incredibly loud, even in that ratio I have to dial the tops back quite a bit as they overpower the subs which are also very efficient. In one pair of Otops I have melded arrays in the other, compression drivers. Honestly I prefer the compression driver sound to the melded arrays, but the arrays have wider horizontal dispersion. I usually only stack them up on outdoor gigs, where you can hear clearly from very far away.

If you are making one T39, just go ahead and make two. They are really easy compared to the tops.

Regardless of the size of gig, I always stack 'em. They really sound better when two of 'em couple. And yeah, I dial 'em back some too.

In one small place we played a few times - instead of splitting two OTops, I just did a mono stack in the corner with both of 'em. Still only used two, but they sounded better coupled.

Last weekend I had some time to test my OT12's. The quality of the sound was wery good, but When I stacked them it became amazing.
Is this "stacking" works in case of Dr's and Jack as well?

I must build an other pair of OT! ...but before that, I have to finish my Titans.

I guess I must build the secound pair.

Agreed. I stack my Jack 112L's whenever I can. Sounds better, looks better... I bought a pair of regular Jack 12's, but haven't stacked them 3-high yet with the Jacks...
