Just hold on a cotton pickin' minute mister.. Is that the 4x4 version of the SLA Pro sans-tweeters you ask?

Why Yes, yes it is! Thanks for asking by the way. (sorry 'bout your luck Goldwood)

And there is, of course, a reason for choosing the downscale version of the legend. Since those windows so durned big, I didn't have much room for these babies, that, and I didn't want people to bump their noggins as they jumped up in amazement at the shear awesomeness of their sound, while there in the peanut gallery that is.

Not only that, I couldn't have them all up in the face of our audience when out live now could I?

Let's see how that turned out:

But what's that you say? Is that some kind of fun, inflatable furniture next to that chair? Some highfalutin' piece of elecronical thingamajigg? Or maybe some sort of.. end table?

Why, it sure is!

And it ROCKS!

I mean really, what are tops without bottoms? (he happily asked the gal wearing half a tankini)

(Cue circus.. theme... music- ?) Enter the T18.

Here is it during the birthing process:

Built exclusively for use in the studio, it rounds out the sound nicely plus- it makes a great drink holder! Liquid lunch win!

Note that I also wired that run to the sub to both sides of the wall so that I can take it outside the observation window (we call that the lobby, the green room, or "out there") so that I could compliment the external speakers installed above the observation window (Elan Elios EuroStyle ES412B's if you're curious - hey, don't smack me for that decision).

Here is le sub in it's current resting place:

Notice how I cleverly placed my brand badge on the top so that all who pass through will see it?

Yup, that's just me- envisioning brilliance that is, more often than not, merely shameless. :D

(Secret #2: the SLA's have them on their back as well, upside down so when they are on stands they are right-side up! shhhhhh, don't tell anyone - hehehehe)

If you look closely here (lower left of observation window) you can see the speakon peakon at ya!

(yes, saying that hurt, seems my therapy is not working at all)

So, was that all to the audio reproduction devices? Heeeeeeeck no! Though we're still building furniture for the space, I grabbed the first two long industrial desks I could get my flesh-deprived mitts on so that I could move into that sweet, sweet Control room.

And was I going to live with headphones, sitting there for the rest of my days? Oh Heeeeeell No! I needed some moar loudstuffs!

I considered the 2x SLA Pro's but happened at the moment, to look over in the corner of the shop and spied some old tired Heybrook desk monitors that looked so lonely, so sad, dejected really. So, picking them up... I gingerly cradled them in my arms... soothed their weary disposition with soft-spoken words...sat them gently upon my work bench......

AND RIPPED THEM APART!

Disassembled their MDF cabinets of shame, crushing their fibrous skeletons beneath my angry feet, built similar sized sealed cabs, performed surgical-level electronics re-purposing, and before you knew it, they lived again! (It is ALIIIIVEEE)

Couldn't bring myself to photograph their original state (read: I forgot, like an idiot.) But fear not, here are some of the post-op results:

And here they are, all healed up and back to work. Along with those temporary industrial table desks I was telling you about.

This is where I sit most of my happy days, peering ominously through the looking glass, yelling constantly at the "talent" as they like to be called.

Since the time of speaker install, I've gone full bore (insert gun joke here) into the moving pictures arena. That's right- Talkies! - Installing IP remote controlled HD PTZ cameras in fixed and flexible stations (also roadable!) so that we can work up the vids with a minimal resource requirement. I even built fully functional tally lights that integrated into my video switching prog to reduce the oh-so-common "where the hell are they looking?" that sometimes occurs with the "talent" as they speak to a camera that cares nothing about them at that moment.

It's a regular mini-television studio, complete with cheesy cardboard sets! (that's for you broadcast guys).

Alas, I must save those pics for when I complete phase three of the studio build:

(Cue tympanic roll under VO)

- Custom four piece main studio desk...
- Guest furnitures...
- Full length, rack capable Control Room digs... (with a BAR, thanks to Bill)
- Multi-angle, zoomable, DMX controlled RGBAW LED talent lighting...
- 360 degree curtain track for look/feel/brand changes and the ever-so-effervescent chroma key applications... and
- Finish turning the remainder of that closet into a dedicated VO booth.

(tiny cymbal splash)

Goona be cool- (I hope) :D

Wish me luck!

Having no real ability to track time myself, keep in mind that video was done many moons ago. Some of the pics I posted are more recent. It does show you what an old man looks like hanging out in an oh-so-fancy-pants Control Room though. I really gotta have a talk with that geezer, I mean, where'd his hair go-? wait.. he looks awfully familiar... eh- crap.

Oh, heeeyy, hahaha... look at the time (rolls empty wrist faceward). It's beer-thirty in my parts. I gotta see a man about a horse. (no blankets!)

Enjoy!

Looks sweet!
Curious what you used for the LED lighting around the sound absorbing panels.
I have to re-do a room soon and like the look!

Thanks, and I mentioned it. Just do a search for '5050 led strips' and you will find hundreds of variations. Some with, and some without, rudimentary control boxes/remotes/power supplies.

I didn't need such items since I am running them via DMX via a 600W power supply into the 36channel control board I mentioned as well.

That's one thing about those strips, without the proper power for long runs, the ends will eventually will not be the color you want them to be.
