 Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
Didn't want to hijack jbass's thread because my needs are a bit different.
I would welcome advice on a suitable amp for a single J110 without piezos. I built it to use as a small stage monitor for my bass. I need a direct out to go to the board, but other than that I'm mainly interested in small, lightweight, and inexpensive. Obviously doesn't need a lot of power cause it's just driving the one cab. Might consider installing it permanently on to the Jack (airhead) or just keeping the amp and cab separate.
Thanks,
Doug
p.s. I would encourage anyone on the fence about building one of these to go for it. Very simple and fun build, and even without the piezos sounds great as a small bass cab. You can cut the wood on Friday and be playing it on Sunday.

 Re: Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
Any bass amp that's within your budget and meets your criteria would be "suitable", wouldn't it?
Just go shopping and see/hear what sounds good to you. Take your cab with you.

What is your price range? Inexpensive means many things to many people.

 Re: Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
Still depends on your budget (need more input ). If you need to go really very inexpensive, like just a tad over free, then have some patience and look out for a used combo with scratches and bruises and take the amp section out, bin the rest. Or go all the way, put the remainders on Ebay There are plenty of cheap combo's around the 100W mark to be found. That should be enough power to drive a J110 to more than sensible stage volume (if your band has a somewhat mature approach to making music rather than plenty noise). E.g. used Peavey combo's are plentiful, cosmetically done yet functionally almost indestructable. A used Hartke combo or amp heads should be very affordable, too.

What woofer did you load your Jack 10 with?
Honestly, just about any bass amp will do. You could also go the preamp + power amp route for even greater flexibility.

 Re: Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
I'd like to keep it below $300. Around $200 would be even better. Doug

What are your tonal preferences?
Old school? Vintage? Hi-Fi? Tube/Solid State? etc...

 Re: Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
Hard to go wrong with a used Peavey. You'll be able to get a nice one in that price range.

I don't think he'd want to pay the shipping or have to change the power supply to 110v.

 Re: Bass Amp Suggestions Redux
I'm not sure I have any. I play rock and roll. Seriously, I have never been able to figure out the tone thing. My current bass (G&L L2000) has like 4 gajillion settings (3 knobs, 3 switches). My current amp (ancient GK 800RB) has four tone controls plus three switches (low cut, high cut, scoop) , the main PA has 7 band parametric EQ plus delay plus reverb plus forty eleven other effects. Seems like I oughta be able to get just about any tone you can imagine out of all those possibilities. By the time I get to the end of that signal chain I wouldn't know a tube amp from Adam. Doug
