RTA on the Mac

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

As much as I am loathe to admit this as a true die-hard mac user, I do all my RTA through VMware Fusion with a Windows XP virtual machine running SMAART.

There are a few out there worth checking out. I've played with demos of the following:

FuzzMeasure 3: http://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/FuzzMeasure/

SignalScope Pro: http://www.faberacoustical.com/products ... scope_pro/

Mac the Scope: http://www.channld.com/sshot/index.html

In the end I just use my handheld Phonic PAA2. Although I would probably buy FuzzMeasure or SignalScope or both if I had the cash.

bassbrock - thanks for the pointers...

Honestly - the main reason I stick with SMAART is that I had it on hand, and I tend to collaborate with a couple of other guys around here who are strictly PC-based. It's much easier to rub in how much better my 'cheap' 'cobbled-together' DIY speakers are compared to their multi-thousand-dollar 'ProSound' rigs when I'm using the same tool for measurement.

I use http://www.vertexdsp.com/products_multiinspector.html as a plug in with my host software on macbook pro, and use a behringer ref. mic and motu interface.

I also have the Behringer ECM8000. Have you found that you aren't really able to pay to much attention above 2k because of a hump from 3-12k in the mic? I think this was confirmed?

I would be curious if the Audix TR40 is more accurate through the entire range?

Thanks!
Phil
That's such a ubiquitous mic I'd think there would be compensation curves for it for some of that software. I know most of the stuff I've looked at, (more along the lines of production rather than live) have it available. That capsule is used in several different mics.

Try Spectra Plus 5.0. It has all the full capabilities along with waterfall plots.A bit pricey over Smaart full blown version but it does more. You can load it up with whatever options you need so you can keep the price down.

I run SMAART 6.0 and it works very well.I've been messing with the Spectra as they have a 30 free trial fully functional download. That allows you ample time to take an honest stab at the software and see if you really like it or not.
