Jack 10 EQ (moved)

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

Jack 10 EQ (moved)

#1 Post by CBIERN »

My new Deltalite Jack 10s with melded arrays will be ready in a couple of days. :hyper:
I plan to drive them from the stereo outs of a Motif ES 7 keyboard into small Behringer mixer and a Crown XTI 1000.
The whole point of the exercise is to get a) Stereo with about 4" to 6' or so of separation between them, behind me (in venues where I've got the room - I'll stack them where I don't) b) better sound quality than the Behringer 812 neo (though the 812 has given pretty good bang for the bucks it does tend to start to break up with too much organ low end pushed into it).

I'm very aware that I'll need to EQ them quite a bit and I'd like to do that with the XTIs built in EQ rather than dragging another 2 rack spaces of an ART 455 31 band stereo EQ . I don't have access right now to my Driverack PA. (It's in the rack for the band PA) so I'm appealing to you who have gone there before me for some EQ settings I can plug in to start with.
For those not familiar with the Band Manager 2 software for the XTI you get a 6 band parametric eq with high shelf and low shelf filters for each channel.

It would appear that using a wide Qs for each band the published Jack curve can be accommodated but at what center frequencies?
It would appear that I'd boost 10db at around 60hz and cut 10db at around 270hz then up 10db at 1000 etc on up
If there's not enough control to be effective in the XTI then what sort of curves should I draw on the ART? I'm not sure about what frequencies are better cut than boosted.
Ultimately I'll get a hold of the Driverack and do the auto eq but I'd like to get the party started please.

Thanks,
Charlie

In two days in the Jack forum the only reply was a note from the boss that 10db boost is too much.
OK I won't do that! But I'd still like to hear from any other Jack 10 user re: what did you do to make them sing?

If you have a measurement mic and a way to hook it up to your computer then I'd say use rew to rta it. If not then invert the spl chart and afterwards eq to taste. I prefer boosting my low end but I wouldn't go over +6 db at 50 hz. I'm assuming you're playing far below rated power. I would pull down (cut) known annoying frequencies, i think 2k is one but ymmv. Good luck and I hope people that have jack 10s should chime In. I'm just referencing my t39+ tlah experience.
