Crossover settings for Tuba 24s and DRPA

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

Crossover settings for Tuba 24s and DRPA

#1 Post by psuorganguy »

I'm just finishing up building my second 16" single bp102 Tuba 24. My system consists of a pair of Yamaha S112IVs for tops and the pair of 16" Tuba 24s. I will be using a dbx Driverack PA for system management. What would be a good place to start in regards to crossover frequency for such a system?

45hz highpass at the steepest slope available, for the DRPA I think it is 24dB/octave.

Low pass the subs @ 60 Hz 12-18 db/oct , High pass the tops ~100-125 Hz 18 db/oct.

so, with the DriveRack PA
you can select a 2 way system
or 3 way
but in this case it will be a 2 way
question
if you put the lo/high crosocer point at 100 or 125hz
how do you lo pass the subs at 60 as you stated, with the 100 or 125 setting you will low pass the subs at 100 or 125
and high pass the tops to the same choose freq

or you mean that you put a subsonic filter on the subs at 60 hz, in that case what about the 45 hz setting that bassmoster said

im a bit confused

Radian's method is another way of flattening response.
So you can set HP @ 45Hz, Low pass at (say) 100Hz and crossover to tops also at 100Hz. Then use EQ to adjust Lows and highs.

Radian's method makes use of the rising response of the cabs,
You still cross over to tops at 100Hz.
You still set HP on the subs at 45Hz.
If you then LP the subs at around 60Hz, you "flatten" that section and make it similar to the response from 60 to 100Hz. Doing it this way requires gain adjustment also. And you still need to EQ, but not as much.
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...
