Duratex alternative

#1 Post by himhimself »

Anyone ever use Rustoleum bed liner to cover their cabinets or racks? Wondering how it compares with Duratex. Pretty good deal right now at Rural King on the Rustoleum product.
thanks

The prices I looked up on it were more expensive than duratex.....but, I didn't see Rural King.

Stinks as in "smells", or has a terrible odor?

Or Stinks as in : not suitable protection for speaker cabinets?

I did a pair of tiny monitors with coaxial 8" drivers with Herculiner truck bed coating before I found this forum and heard about Duratex.

The truck bed coating is super stout, as you'd imagine, but...Duratex beats it in almost every other area...

Duratex is cheaper, MUCH easier to apply, looks better, MUCH easier to touch-up, tintable, sprayable. I've still got the other part of the quart of Herculiner left. Never opened it again... Duratex is where it's at.
Built:

2 T48 Slims (15" wide) with 3012LF
4 T48 Fattys (32" wide) with 3015LF

What's a "competitive alternative" to Duratex, in other words,
1. same or similar Polyurethane Acrylic paint formula,
2. from a different brand,
3. for a cheaper cost per gallon.

Based on all the guys building cabs on this forum over last several years and constantly looking for an alternative ..... I'd say there isn't one.

I believe I've found several good brands worth trying out.
It's called "synthetic stucco", "acrylic stucco", or "elastomeric stucco".
$40-$50 per 5 gallon bucket.
100 - 300 square feet depending on how thick you apply it.
