Hi Keryn

We live in Cooroibah which is behind Tewantin, which is near Noosa, which is . . .

I'm the world's worst procrastinator
My first build is going to be two T39s (for my daughter's band). After the Titans, my plan is to build a couple of Jacks, then some wedges.
I was originally going to go for some DR250s for the mains, but I think I would be biting off more than I could chew.

The T39s have been about 5 years in the planning.
I now have all the hardware, the amp, a Behringer crossover and a Behringer equaliser.
I even have all the timber.
All I am waiting for is the time. :wall:
Meanwhile my daughter has left the band (Cleveland Blues) and is currently filling in for bands like The Flumes and Forms of Recreation. She's a drummer. :?

Next week, my wife and I are heading overseas for a month. She is English and still has relations in the UK.
She wants to catch up with her Dad who is now well over 90.

However, I am definitely going to get stuck into the Titans as soon as we get back (end of March).
I'll start a build thread when I start.

BTW, for sealing around the driver, buy some sealant from Jaycar. Can't remember what it is called, but it's like "blue tac" or plasticine.

Cooroibah IS a beautiful place, as is that whole region.

Aren't we all! A DR would be daunting for a first build, does your home theater need more grunt...? That gear is a bit easier to handle when first building, apart from the THTLP! You'll use (and possibly appreciate) it a lot more than PA...

Roger, I'll check it out.

Ok, seeing as theres no Xmax along with the specs of this driver:

5 volts @ 30hz shows the cone move a total of 1/4'' as per the break in procedure. After 8 hours of that, I brought the voltage slowly up to 12 volts briefly to show 3/4'' of total travel, the speaker showed no signs of stress.

Does anyone know the recommended max voltage for the other suitable drivers for the AT?

Before sanding/finishing I ran the AT on the bench off one of the Hi-fi subs amp I use in the workshop (which power T30's well), and I wasn't real impressed. Then thought, "ah well it was worth a shot for the driver."
So I went ahead and fitted the amp in my Mitsubishi Delica (4wd Van) anyway, hooked up the AT and thought "at least I'll have a little something until I buy a real driver for it...."
So set the levels low and started playing a tune..... whoa HOLY S*#T!! I'd forgotten about that cabin gain thing.
Without measuring anything, and only going off levels set quite low, and the enclosure almost dead to the touch, I feel this driver is WELL up to it.
Very impressed with the result, even with being a bass head, I'll keep playing and keep you posted. Would easily have smoked any of the 15'' reflex auto cabs I'd played with as a youngster!

Hi Everyone.
Well into building my two T39s.

Question : What is the current opinion of the different Durtex style coatings available in Australia?
Durability is my main concern.

Hey Keryn - sub looks great.

Doesn't matter what it is, if you don't look after it it will show sooner or later.
Most of the people using Duratex in the USA based builds seem to love it. Easy to apply, resilient enough finish.
I feel the same about Rockard, if it's still going.

Even though I'm careful, sometimes you get a little rub or knock that affects the finish.
It's not quite enough to buy a new tub of paint at this time (I'm well over 2 years since completing my builds), but I'm keeping an eye on it.
It will need redoing/touching up at some stage...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Hi Grant.

Is Rochard still available?
I know Neil died several years ago and his wife, Tanya was trying to keep the business going.
The website definitely doesn't exist anymore.

Bit dry out your way. :(
Good luck for the coming summer.

According to http://www.rockardpaint.com/

contact Tanya: rockardpaint@gmail.com

If it turns out to be still available, please let us know here.

Yeah mate, it is a bit dry. Future forecast isn't looking to great either.
Hopefully I might see my first wet season since arriving here...

FYI Duratex is available in aus, I got mine from Cannon Sound & Light over in NSW:

http://www.cannonsound.com.au/shop/audi ... -coatings/

They do a discount if you buy 3 or more x 1 gallon tubs which is decent. Those 3 tubs double coated 6 T30's, 2 OT12's and a dual turntable/mixer roadcase with half a tub left over. I'm really happy with the finish too, great texture.
Built:
6 T30 (24", 3012LF)
2 OT12 (MA, 3012HO)
2 T24 (18", 3010LF)

Running:
DCX2496
XTi 2002
XTi 4002
TRAKTOR Z2
TECHNICS 1210 Mk5's

Thanks Guys. :D

I've left a message for Tanya.
I'll also get some prices from Cannonsound for Duratex.
I'd prefer the support the local manufacturer, and also I think the Rockhard would be cheaper. :fingers:

Perhaps not.
IIRC 15 litres was around $260 delivered.
Having said that, 15 litres did 4 x 20" wide T39's, 2 x DR250's, 3 x WH8's and my FX rack which is 13 RU high.
And I didn't use any flat black as a primer.

Duratex is $110 for 3.8 litres. It says it's a gallon tub, and that's a bit misleading, AFAIK, 1 US gallon should be 4 litres...

1 US gallon is 4 quarts.....a quart is a little less than a litre, so the 3.8 is correct.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

IIRC the discount I got was 15% off for 3 or more 1 gallon tubs. It was a decent enough discount.

Abouta year ago, my mate contacted Tanya to source Rockard in Turbo blue... alas, it must've been wound up
He ended up getting custom RAL imported via Cannon, took a while but wasn't any more than standard black
So yeah, just go to Cannon
