Looks correct. Check the phase on both arrays.

If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

I'm shooting in the dark, but perhaps you were reflecting off something. I see fences and a brick wall. You're always your own biggest critic

I can't see from the photo if there is a dowel down the center of the melded arrays. Before I installed mine, they sounded like what you're describing.commander_dan wrote: One comment on the melded arrays, building on my first impression of them a few months back. As I noticed before, they still have a very narrow "sweet spot" when standing dead in line with them. I'm not as impressed with the off-axis dispersion as everyone else here seems to be. Take one step to the side from that central sweet spot, and those super crisp highs are gone. Surely someone else on here notices this? It's pretty hard to miss.

That would be the diffuser in the plans....
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Yep they have the diffusers in place. Hence the above questioncommander_dan wrote:
Has anyone ever tried modifying the diffuser to try and even out the dispersion a bit?
They were setup in open air, approx 15m away from the nearest wall that was in front of them so I don't see how reflections could cause a narrow high frequency dispersion effect. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but that has not been my experience. The effect I'm describing has occurred at every venue, outdoor or in. I'm critical of all sound systems because I know what sounds good and what doesn't, because of being a musician (like many of you all are), and I try to keep an un-biased approach in these sorts of things.jimbo7 wrote:I'm shooting in the dark, but perhaps you were reflecting off something. I'm away this week so I won't get a chance to do any phase testing or sweeps but when I get home I will endeavour to do this... but to save me having to do so, can I ask someone with a musical ear to stand directly in line with their speaker with melded array whilst a high quality recorded track with a crisp hihat is being played, and then simply step to one side, and tell me what they notice? do it a few times if you have to, and please, be honest!

You might have golden ears Commander.
How far away from the speaker are you when making the observation?
And a general question to the community: Would a polar plot of the melded array be useful here?
