8 T36 stacked & Plated

#1 Post by gtr_pro »

Had a chance to step back and take some pictures of the T36.
We were going to floor stack but for safety and attendance issues we moved them onto stage.
We were about 2ft off the floor and 2 ft from the ceiling.

8 Tuba36
2 Crown XTI 2000

we used the house sound side fill Jbls as OmniTop12 stands

2x2512 Melded
2xHO Melded
2xCompression Horn
2 x Crown XTI 1000

My close friend brought his compact 19 inch x32 mixer and EQ the room.
The x32 fixed some glaring balance issues.
cleaned up the eq and solved some problems at 350 hz.

The power alley was about 18 ft wide (I mean 12 ft wide) and 25 ft deep into the crowd.
there was a null at about 30 ft. (I noticed ceiling tiles were missing there?)
Then it was okay after 35 ft.
I think the ceiling is 12 ft tall.

The cook stated "you shook the dishes all night" with a smile.

Dalton ran the Laser show from stage left, he is over 6 ft tall and stout.
I ran lights next to him and Dj was on stage right.

With that many T36's, do you really need a VPlate?!?

I may have been tempted to just have them in a line or do you start getting interference if the sub array is too wide?

Either way, looks nice! really nice!

Actually, no. Returns diminish as more cabs are added. With eight just the V coupling is adequate, the plate doesn't add any more to it.

At what height do you lose any advantage? My stack of T39s is right at 6 feet tall. Haven't every v-plated that configuration, but wonder if it's worth it should I ever have the opportunity.

I wouldn't bother with the plate past 3 cabs high.

We do all 8 in a line a few times (2 times a year) , and stacking them is rare ( 1 time in 2 years?)

When we do all 8 in a line we use it as a DJ booth.

However we learned that you have to use 180 lb stage decks to keep the laptops and contollers from wobbling off the tubas/Dj booth.

the 8x4 piece of MDF on 2x4 could not handle the rumble.

Regardless of width? Or is it a "total height" thing.
