debut my Tuba24
debut my Tuba24
Small mobile karaoke operation. Recently completed 1) 4 driver and 1) 2 driver sla pro. Very nice, but was using "el cheapo" 18" direct radiator sub. Just completed my first of 2 Tuba 24's 2 nights ago and giged with it last night. Three words - O MY GOODNESS!!!! Can hardly wait to get the second one on line. Never heard these things before, and very nearly didn't build, but glad I did. This season's sound is gonna be awsome! Thanks for the great designs Bill.

Re: debut my Tuba24
Just an update: Finished the second Tuba just a couple hours before show time-Duratex still tender when I loaded. Was able to hook up my rig in the garage with the door rolled up, so I could really push it. Nothing short of awsome! Driving the entire rig with a Peavey IPR-1600DSP, crossed over at 110Hz. At the end of the driveway apron, approx 30 ft from speakers, peaking 0db on the mixer, I had very near arena concert levels-absolutely clean. I have found that I only need to drive to approx -12db peaks in the bar I normally play, even on the rowdiest night. Plenty of headroom left. What a treat! Best money I ever spent on speakers.

Why 1 four driver and 1 two driver sla?
Did you play it outside? I haven't used my t24 outside yet and curious how it sounds.

Re: debut my Tuba24
What driver(s) did you use? What width did you choose (I see 20" in your sig, so forget that question)? My son and I are looking at making 1 (eventually 2) of these and are looking for some feedback on those questions. Thanks.

I have four T24s loaded with the BP120 also at 20 inches.
I think they sound very nice and I haven't heard another commercial subwoofer yet that comes close to sound quality or a PA system. There are louder designs, but I DJ for about 150 to 300 kids and it works very nice.
The advice that was given to me when I first starting building BFM gear was to think about building multiples and budget for that. I'm a one man show and I just can't haul really big gear around all myself, but the 24 is an easy one man lift and can easily fit through tight spaces. I can haul all of my gear, in a standard ford van, or a 4x8 trailer with room to spare.

Re: debut my Tuba24
Originally planned on 2 of each for the versatility they would provide-right amount of speaker for the venue. Couldn't afford enough drivers to build all at once, and the 2 driver-4 driver cabs stacked and offset 45 degrees covers to venue i play most frequently perfectly. I have had nothing but very positive comments from the patrons since I started using the new rig. Needless to say, I'm very pleased. Haven't tried the system in complete open air yet. I'm also curious to hear the result.jimbo7 wrote:Why 1 four driver and 1 two driver sla?
