Lab 12 Titan 39's & Mackie SRM450v2

#1 Post by BassheadUK »

Hi everyone,

Its been months since I've last been here, owing to a lot of poor health and work issue!

Saturday 21st Feb, this date was a friends surprise birthday party. Now he's my partner in crime and handles the lighting of the rig, so we told him it was a paid event some chaps 21st.

Titans were setup, V plated in a corner, and this is the second time they have actually been used! I checked for sound level limits = None

We arrived, a cheese mix of party hits went on at a low volume, once all the hello's were taken care of, a deep house cd went on, and the volumes started to increase. When my pal decided to have a mix on the CDJs volumes went up even more, and drinks started to vibrate towards the edge of the tables...... Site management came over, and my friend had gone away leaving me behind the decks, I was the one that got it in the neck and was asked to turn it down. When I said I had been told that you didn't have a limit, she said, inside we don't, however when you go outside and the whole building is vibrating and you can feel it on the far side of the carpark, that becomes an issue. (single story, glass and brick base, metal clad roof and top.)

I took some voltage readings at points, and never really used more than 20v.....

When packing away site staff commented that they had never had that sort of sound levels or quality outside of a nightclub, never from a mobile disco, and she had never heard that sort of levels while sober.

Needless to say, I wasn't asked to leave a business card.

Sound wise. These subs were last used in May 2014, they've been up my garage since and I've still not finished them! Plenty of love for these subs.
I plan to build a couple of DR250's & Autotuba.
WARNING - LAB12 T39's are EXCELLENT

I had a similar experience at a good sized banquet room, maybe 30'x40', 16' ceilings. Pair of 30", 3012lf loaded t-39s, wall loaded away from the adjoining hotel. Sounded great in the room, but management said there were noise complaints from the 4 story hotel that is a separate structure (but is adjoined via a connecting hallway.) Can the bass get louder beyond the confines than it is within? And how would you combat that?

So does that mean that if this is happening, and it IS due to cancellations, that it could be reduced by splitting the pair (losing the extra 3dB from the v-plate) but gaining a tad bit more just above the highpass frequency? For the T-39s, uncoupled, this would be 45 and up, since they are now not coupled. What's the minimum distance to avoid cancellations at 45 hz?

Not necessarily. There's only one way to stop low frequency bleed-through, and that's by making the walls solid concrete over a foot thick, with no doors or windows. Being underground helps too. Hitler's Bunker or Minuteman missile silos would work well.

I didn't mean *eliminate* bleed through, just reduce it...as much as reasonably doable.

Use six inch thick solid concrete walls.

Wow....the last line really lays that argument to waste.

Don't think I've ever seen that one.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Tried that... no police turned up (so it does work  ), but so much reverb! Turned down the faders and the room kept making noise for another second!
