Awesome. Your description is how I imagine it would sound. Like everyone else who's seen this design, I definitely want to join the (exclusive ) club of David owners... I didn't think the THT under the Davids would necessarily be a fantastic idea fwiw, as you said you'd have to cross it very low to preserve that great seamless bass you're hearing. Just curious, how much bass impact are you getting with the Foster amp setup? Are you happy with your choices?
Thanks

I think I would just use my little Denon receiver to power the Davids. I like the fact that they are floor standing and cant be easily knocked over.

I was getting ready to start my SLA LCR but I am still tempted to have the Davids for L/R and use all my speaker components for center and surrounds. I cant remember why it was suggested that the Davids wouldn't be suggested for HT use.

I would use them alot for 2 channel but once a week or so I would use them for HT if I had them.

Ok I just realized that you all just answered why they weren't suggested. I think if I was using the tht in HT I would just use my receiver and cross the Davids 70 or so and let the THT take over from there.

I really would like to build a pair of Davids and hear them with Overture of 1812. I have a disc of the piece and it has 7 hz canon blasts. Not saying the Davids would have the full canon feel but I would love to see what they could do.

.
Because 3/4 of their volume is taken up by their subwoofer, but that sub only goes low enough for music. For HT a sub that goes lower (TT or THT) is preferred, along with mains that extend to 80-100 Hz, not 40 Hz.

Thats what I figured.

What is your tuba bottom crossed over at?

Would the Davids not sound very good at 70 and above hz?

It's not that they won't sound good, it's that you don't need a 3 way designed to go to 40Hz if you're only using it above 70 Hz. The David woofer section runs to 200Hz, using a purpose designed crossover for proper integration with the mids.

Update of David Stereo Floorstanders..

One of my inspirations for building The Davids was having listened to a set of vintage 1976 "Goliath Corner Horns" for several months last winter while refinishing them for a friend. Several days ago I went to my friends home to re-audition the "Goliaths", as to compare them to The Davids. My conclusion is that the Davids are just as superb as "The Goliaths". My friend concluded that The Davids sounded "sweeter", he thought his "Goliaths" sounded "tinny" (they do have metal horns, mid and tweeter).

I made an unscientific reading with RTA (Studio Six Digital app) on my iPod Touch and the graph is below. (microphone is not calibrated). I am biamping using a subwoofer amp so there is massive amounts of bass even with the gain set very low.

Build a set... Your ears will love them....

Hey Tom...

My buddy has McIntosh Stereo Equipment which has an equalizer of sorts... Low, Mid and High adjustment knobs. I adjusted his midrange down a notch and now he sounds sweet. It's just the equal loudness curve of the ear and brain, a dip around 4000hz to sound right.

I did some TrueRTA testing today of my "David Stereo Floorstanders". They are corner loaded in a 20x28x8 room and have Tang Band woofers. (I used TrueRTA, Behringer ECM8000, and M-Audio MOBILEPRE USB)

The RTA below is from my listening position, about 15 feet from The Davids, the album is Pomp and Pipes by Dallas Wind Symphony.. The piece is "The Vikings" and is played on a giant pipe organ.

The Davids have no problem going flat to 10 hz. If the music has deep bass The Davids will play it ! They are truly amazing !
